Willie Johnson serves as Vice President of Strategic Sourcing and Economic Development for VyStar Credit Union. Willie brings over 25 years of experience in the areas of Workforce and Workplace Diversity; Supply Chain Optimization; Strategic Procurement and Responsible Sourcing; as well as leading ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Councils. In previous roles, he assisted in creating and implementing a local developing business procurement program for a government agency as well as enhancing supplier diversity and procurement programs for several global CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) corporations.
During his tenure with VyStar Credit Union, he has lead projects that have strengthen our diverse candidate pipeline with many external partners such as the US Army and National Guard, the League of Southern Credit Unions and helped establish VyStar Credit Union as a destination employer with several HBCU’s (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Willie also continues to demonstrate VyStar Credit Union’s motto to “Do Good” by his continuous volunteerism and sitting on boards which develop and positively impact local communities such as the US Department of Commerce’s Orlando MBDA.
As a Vice President of the National Minority Supplier Development Council Affiliate, he wrote and trained certification staffers on the certification protocol which fosters the development and contractual commitment to diverse businesses, while continuing to keep the bid process competitive. He was one of five members who further developed the certification practices that were implemented and administered in Canada, United Kingdom, China, South Africa, and Australia.
Willie continues to strengthen and grow relationships with local and national organizations by serving on their boards or committees to assist in the advancement of economic development and inclusive procurement practices. He remains enthusiastic that through the motto of “Do Good” that he can and has been empowered to continue to infuse procurement and bid opportunities to small, local, and diverse suppliers and to use this mechanism to assist in creating jobs in for these communities, through these suppliers.
